Prayer

An excerpt from the prayer by Rev. Rob Mossis, vicar of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown, CT, following President Obama's address there yesterday:

We bring to you 20 new stars in the heavens, 20 new saints, 20 new angels. We bring to you those who risk their lives for us every day not counting the cost, and we bring to you those who died, those who counsel, those who bless and embrace the confused and the broken. And now in this prayer, we bring to you ourselves, our questions, our doubts, our anger and our hearts, and we pray for the peace, the hope and the renewal of trust that can come only from a God who first conceived us in love and places a hand of compassion on each of our shoulders even in the most trying times. And so tonight for our community, a community deeply pained, we ask you to heal our brokenness, to answer our questions, to replace our doubts with certainty, our anger with peace and our hurt with healing…"

Prayer Request

My father fell last weekend and broke his leg. After surgery on Monday, he has reacted badly to the anesthetic and is still in bed two days later. My mother hired aides to stay with him day and night, which has kept him calmer than his post-op experience last September. At that time, he had received a partial hip replacement and was so agitated that restraints were required.

Thinking a challenge would give him more resolve, I asked him today if he was ready to fight to get better.

"NO!"

In his shoes, I'd probably feel the same way. Please pray for him to work with the medical staff, that he will recover enough to get out of bed and start the rehab process.

Dec. 6

Happy St. Nicholas Day! Did you leave your shoes by the door last night?
