Treats

Jonathan and I have been crazy busy with job duties, kid duties, and just general issues.  That means no grocery shopping for several days and living off our food pantry.  It contained lots of sweets and carbohydrates, but not much fresh fruit.  When I used our last piece of fruit for sack lunches, I switched to a double portion of vegetables. We had lots of carrots and red cabbage in the frig, but three days in a row of such fare got pretty tiresome.

Today, I bit the bullet and did some shopping.  A package of sugar snap peas caught my attention and looked really delicious despite its high price.  Upon reaching the checkout, I told that the cashier that I had not intended to buy snap peas, but they looked really good.  She eyed me with an odd expression, and then volunteered that most other people's impulse purchase is ice cream.

Annunciation Day in Sweden

Waffles are consumed on 25th March in Sweden, which is known as Våffeldagen. The name comes from the Christian Vårfrudagen (Our Lady's Day), which in Swedish sounds almost like Våffeldagen (waffle day), but it is no longer linked to any religious events. The date historically marks the end of the winter and the beginning of spring. People gorge on the griddled cakes for breakfast, lunch, dinner or as an afternoon fika snack.
