These guidelines were found on the internet, not from our church. I'm relieved not to have faced some of these issues!

Rethink That Idea
I've never considered those family decals you so often see on the back window of automobiles--mostly because we have eight people in our house, and nine if you count the dog. But the ability to customize looks kind of interesting.
Yesterday, however, I decided that we would definitely not buy decals for our car. I pulled up behind a vehicle with the following:
(Pardon the reference to the Texas Chain-Saw Massacre. But despite that, the image IS pretty funny!)
Not Everybody's Perfect
My great niece Lila is about 10 months old, and she is the most photogenic baby I've ever met. (No, I'm not biased!) But almost every photo I've seen of her is adorable. Until last week. Her mother Kylie (my brother's daughter) posted the first one of her that is "cross." It's pretty funny.

An Anniversary

I don't know if you offer specific petitions during your Evening Prayer liturgy with the confirmands. But if you do, today is Peter's 7th adoption anniversary. It's actually a hard day for him, because he doesn't share the same anniversary as the other five children. This reminds him of the three-year delay in adopting him and raises abandonment issues that are difficult for him to handle. Last night was quite difficult, although today he's calmer but sad. Even if there's not an opportunity for a prayer, I thought it would be good for you to know the situation.

I didn't get a chance to see this message yesterday. But, Pastor did pray for him during worship last night and he got a big smile about that. He did great at confirmation. Loved the art project that we made and was very engaged in everything we did.

Pensacola, Florida
The beach stretched to the right and left, empty as far as the eye can see. My children splashed and body-surfed in the strong waves, shrieking with delight as the water knocked them off their feet. With my bad leg, I couldn't even stand, so I sat in the calm at the edge of the beach, amazed at the clearness of the water and taking in the beautiful scene. Overhead, six planes from the Blue Angels practiced maneuvers, preparing for their upcoming show in Chicago in late August. We didn't need to fight the crowds on North Beach on Lake Michigan. They gave us a private show!

Comparisons
I asked Peter if these two photos were of the same child. He thought so.
Psalm 61:1-5
Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
Serendipity
I'm working in a McDonald's this morning, and overheard that they need repairs to their water line. The restaurant will close for two hours, but they are allowing customers like me to stay at the tables. Since the food they've cooked doesn't keep that long, the manager asked me what I'd like to eat FOR FREE! Otherwise, they will throw the food away. Good timing for me!
