Halloween
I bought canned pumpkin and blackberries to mark the day. On Saturdays, we often have an unusual breakfast, and Peter decided to decorate our pancakes for the holiday.
I made five large pancakes with the already doubled recipe. He then spread the pumpkin on the pancakes to turn them orange, added raisins for eyes, blackberries for a mouth, and a stick of celery for the stem. They were very cute!
Youth Style
The "man bun" really exists. David wore one just last night. I don't have a picture of my son with this hairstyle, but here's an image from the internet:
Endurance
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Success
The four eighth-grade boys walked with me toward the music room. We had just completed our rehearsal for the Reformation service this Sunday. Two of my students will toll a large handbell, while the other two will use a mallet to strike a five-bell tree hung from a pole tied to their belt. All of this is done while they process or recess through the sanctuary.
As we returned to the music room, I told the boys that the rehearsal was done. One of them exclaimed, "Oh, really? I want to keep playing!"
Now THAT was music to my ears!
Perceptive
Peter played a game recently which involved choosing cards with questions printed on them. The idea of the game is to get conversation rolling. Peter's question was "What is your mother's personality?" He answered "Physically strong, mentally strong, emotionally discouraged." He's correct.
Sweden in the Fall
I've been absent from my blog for a long time. I'll explain later. But I saw this photo today and loved it. Wanted to share it with you.

Matching Dresses
Sometimes women accidentally wear the same color or even the same dress to an event. It's amazing to me how often this can happen. I remember a family event where my mother, my sister, and I all wore the same color--red!--unbeknownst to the others until we arrived at the venue.
I follow events involving the Swedish royal family, and recently most of them attended the opening of the Swedish Parliament. These women definitely coordinated their dresses--they are just too similar yet varied for it to be accidental. I can't imagine that such style-conscious royals (by necessity, since they are watched so much) wouldn't choose this clothing on purpose. First, the sisters Madeleine and Victoria:
